Below is a special event release by the WAPPA (Wisconsin Artistic Pool Player Association):

WISCONSIN ARTISTIC POOL PLAYER ASSOCIATION (WAPPA)

(SPECIAL 9-BALL / ARTISTIC POOL EVENT PROMOTIONS)

It was a great day for youth billiards in central Wisconsin at the WAPPA Adult / Child Scotch Doubles Tournament and the WAPPA Artistic Pool Tournament (sponsored by Jacoby Custom Cues) held April 25, 2015 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

That day, tournament directors Ben Zeman of the Wisconsin Artistic Pool Player Association and Brandon Jacoby of Jacoby Custom Cues played host to 18 two-man teams consisting of one adult and one junior player for the scotch doubles tournament. This event was a fundraiser for the WAPPA Junior 9 ball league, which was created earlier this year by Ben and Brandon.

Note: The 9-ball divisional events were preceded by the first-ever WAPPA Artistic Pool Tournament in the state of Wisconsin.

The junior league is part of the Wisconsin Artistic Pool Player Association which is an organization dedicated to promoting Artistic Pool here in the state and beyond. It is made up of some of the best shooters in the state of Wisconsin and even the world.

Everyone who was involved had a great time at the tournaments and is looking forward to the WAPPA junior 9-ball leagues summer session starting in the early part of June at the YMCA in Port Edwards, WI.

There were donations from an assortment of sponsors that were raffled off and given as prizes, along with trophies and metals. The WAPPA would like to thank everyone who was involved and are excited to be a part of youth billiards in Wisconsin.

Below is a special event release by Brian Pauley (on behalf of Erik Lynch, promoter):

          SPORTSFEST SPORTS ARTISTIC POOL COMPETITION!!

One of the biggest events during the year in Allentown PA is Sportsfest. Sportsfest is a large amateur sports competition that includes such sports as Roller Hockey, Crossfit, and Frisbee golf. Over the years Sportsfest has tried to include billiards, but they were off site and didn’t have a good turnout. This year, thanks to Gebhardts Billiards, a table was put in the middle of Cedar Beach Park, and it was a “trick shot” competition. * Local pool promoter Erik D. Lynch teamed up with rookie pro artistic pool player Brian “Superman” Pauley to have an adult and junior amateur “trick shot” competition. *

The players received one on one instruction from Brian on all the shots and when the players felt comfortable, they started their scoring round. The adult tournament yielded four players, one of which was a breast cancer survivor. Joseph M. came away with the trophy and bragging rights at his campus game room.

* SPECIAL NOTE: EVEN THOUGH THE HOST PROMOTER LABELED THIS EVENT A “TRICK SHOT COMPETITION”, IT WAS “SO MUCH MORE” SINCE IT INCLUDED CHALLENGES FROM MORE THAN 1 OF THE INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED ARTISTIC POOL DISCIPLINES. OFTEN EVENTS SUCH AS THIS WILL USE THE WORD “TRICK SHOT” AS A MARKETING TOOL TO A GROWING FAN BASE.

The junior division yielded 6 players that were ready as soon and Erik and Brian arrived Sunday morning. The kids got the same instruction from Brian and they were into it. When the kids were done with their competition, there was a tie for runner up. The two boys then engaged in an ESPN style shootout with each player picking a shot from the shot program and the least amount of attempts won. Excitement and emotions ran high as Gavin pulled off the win in sudden death to earn the title of junior runner up.

Since the artistic pool event was the first of its kind at Sportsfest, the local news came out and interviewed Erik and Brian. It was a great event and the organizer of Sportsfest already wants the event to return next year.
